The Pike County Commissioners are encouring Pike County landowners to remove invasive plant species. Invasive species are often introduced accidentally to the landscape, and can cause ecological destruction of native habitats. Spreading fast, they can overtake vital native pollinator species and other native food sources.
Through funding from a DCED grant, the Commissioners will be providing native plants to landowners that complete an application and provide photo evidence of the invasive species that was removed. Invasive-01(Opens in new window)Autumn/Russian Olive
To learn more about some common invasive species in Pike County, please visit the photo links at right. DCNR offers an overview of the invasive and how it spreads. At this time, we are looking to reduce populations of the following invasives:
Autumn/Russian Olive
Mile-a-Minute
Japanese Barberry
Multiflora Rose
Japanese Knotweed
Norway Maple
Burning Bush
Tree-of-Heaven
Applicants MUST complete the application to be eligible for this program. This is a first come, first serve offering for landowners. Native plant supplies are limited.
