Pike County Lights County Landmarks Green in Support of Operation Green Light for Veterans

In honor of the upcoming Veterans Day holiday, Pike County announced plans to illuminate county buildings green for the month of November, as part of Operation Green Light for Veterans. The initiative, led by the National Association of Counties (NACo), raises awareness around the unique challenges faced by many Veterans and the resources available at the county, state, and federal levels to assist Veterans and their families.

Now in its fifth year, Operation Green Light is expected to draw hundreds of participating counties from states across the nation. The county role in administering services for Veterans includes County Veterans Service Officers helping fellow former service members access more than $52 billion in federal health, disability and compensation benefits each year, as well as other services supporting the approximately 200,000 service members who transition into civilian communities annually.

Jesiah Schrader, Director, Pike County Veterans Affairs said, “Pike County is proud to once again participate in Operation Greenlight, a vital initiative that unites counties across the nation in support of our Veterans. Our office remains dedicated to doing all we can to support those who have served. It is our duty to honor their service and express our gratitude.”

Pike County residents, businesses and community organizations are encouraged to participate in Operation Green Light by simply changing one light bulb in their home or business to a green bulb. This can be an exterior light that neighbors and passersby see, or an interior light that sparks conversation with friends. By shining a green light, we let our Veterans know that they are seen, appreciated and supported.

“Operation Green Light is an opportunity to thank Veterans for both their service to our nation and their contributions to our communities,” said NACo Executive Director Matthew Chase. “With hundreds of counties coming together to light up everything
